Many people work hard, long hours, to make ends meet. If you find yourself in that cycle, of having to work Monday through Friday or Saturday to cover the month, or even having to find a second job on the weekends, increasing your work hours (working harder) in order to cover your spending and saving some money is not the solution.
Hard work is never the answer to attracting more money into your life. I explain better. Working hard is important, but also working smart, the important thing is to work hard with a goal in mind.
Imagine that you have a ship with enough fuel to go from one continent to another, you are in Europe and your goal is to travel to America. If this ship were to lose its course on the high seas, suppose the rudder stops working and starts spinning in circles, it would expend the same energy it would need to go from Europe to America, but it would not reach the destination.
People who work hard without a clear goal are like a ship without a rudder. They go to work from Monday to Friday, to make ends meet, over and over again, without going anywhere. They are always in the same place. And this is what I mean when I say that hard work doesn’t work.
The first step is to have a clear objective, what do you want to achieve? And then use the same energy and do something every day to achieve it. In this way we are working hard, but moving forward and progressing.
If you want to be happy, set a goal that controls your thoughts, releases your energy and inspires your hopes.
Andrew Carnegie – 1835-1919
Someone who has the goal of creating a company will have to work hard, but will be rewarded proportionally to their effort. He will go from where he is, to where he wants to go.
Do not work to work, simply because everyone goes to work every day, to be able to pay the bills for the month. In this way you will only be able to wear yourself out, like the boat that circles the sea.
If you don’t have a clear goal, firstly, you’ll end up working for someone else who does, and secondly, you won’t be able to move forward, you’ll spend 10, 20 or 30 years, in the same job or from job to job. Working hard, but without reaching a destination.
You must have an objective, think how you want your life to be in a few years, what you want to be, what you want to have and how you are going to achieve it.
We all have 24 hours in a day, no one has the privilege of having more time than others, Bill Gate has the same hours available as the one who works from Monday to Friday from 8 to 5. The difference is how you use the time, if you concentrate in a definitive objective, or if you get carried away by the day to day without sitting down to think about how you want to live and how to achieve it.
Other than having the same amount of time, the person who earns 10 times or more does not mean that they are 10 times more talented. There is not much difference between people, the big difference is in the things they achieve.
It is not the same, the one who goes to work at a fast food company, who simply goes because he needs a job, to the one who goes to work at the same fast food company, but with the aim of learning how the business works, because He has the goal of opening a franchise with 100 restaurants and the first thing he has to do is learn from the inside how a fast food franchise operates.
The first will probably end up unmotivated and will complain that he only earns 7 euros an hour and that it is not enough to cover his expenses, the second will go to work motivated and does not mind earning 7 euros an hour because he is taking steps to achieve what he wants .
If you are going to work for someone at least look for a place that helps you learn and grow in what you want to achieve.
If you are one of those who believes that hard work and honesty, by themselves, bring wealth, abandon such thinking! It is not true. Riches, when they come in large amounts, are never just the result of hard work. Wealth comes, if it comes, in response to definite demands based on the application of definite principles and not due to chance or luck.
If you want to expand your knowledge on this subject, I highly recommend you read Napoleon Hill’s book “Think and Grow Rich”, a classic on personal development and responsible for converting the largest number of millionaires in the world.
Give up the thought that hard work alone is going to get you somewhere, this is not true, it is worth repeating several times.
Even if you were raised with the mindset of, graduate college, preferably a doctor or engineer, get a good job, work hard, and your life will be settled forever.
No one teaches us in school, or in college, that we have to have one main goal in life, and then we have to focus all our energy on achieving it. And that it is our responsibility and obligation to achieve success. No one is going to be responsible for what you have or don’t have. If you want something you have to go get it, you can’t wait for it to come one day.
At least, I never saw a class, neither in school, nor university, nor in the MBA, on how to set goals, nor the importance and impact they have on a person’s quality of life.
If you need money, the first thing they tell you is to find a job and work hard. Nobody tells you, look for creative and innovative ways to generate money, or think how to serve millions of people and in the process, to help others, you will be rewarded.
Or even think about how to provide a service to your employer, beyond the daily activity from 8 to 5, something that solves an important problem in the company, and then extend the service to other companies that present the same problem.
The bigger the problem the better, your ability to solve it and serve hundreds or thousands of companies or people with the same problem will generate more money for you, than the job you can apply for, in which you will have to work hard (for a small reward).
Sometimes we have to see other people achieve what we want, to realize that it is possible to achieve it. Whatever you want to have, you can have it, if you only believe you’re capable of it.
Thousands of candles can be lit with a single candle and the life of the individual candle will not be shortened. Happiness never diminishes by sharing it. Buddha.
What a person achieves is the light that makes it possible for others to believe that it is possible.
After Roger Bannister managed to run a mile in less than 4 minutes, before him, it was thought that it was impossible to run that distance in less time. As long as he managed to break the time, he disproved the belief and hundreds of athletes have run the sub-4 minute mile since then.
The idea is that you see how a belief like working hard can keep us from what we really want to do. Because hard work alone will never get you what you want, you need to be clear about what you want and have a plan to get it.
Like the belief that you need money, to earn money, what you need is effort, dedication and creativity towards a defined goal and the money will come.
You must change the belief, and start working hard, but towards a specific goal that you choose, where you can make use of your intellectual faculties, and you have to expand your way of thinking to achieve it.
Today, one of the most important skills is learning to unlearn, you have to unlearn many of your beliefs that limit you and replace them with beliefs that help you achieve what you are looking for.
The goal has to be big enough to make you grow.
Finally, we reach a point where some will say, yes, but: if everyone does what they want, who will do the things that nobody wants to do? Like heavy jobs where you work really hard.
I assure you that if everyone found their purpose in life and had a well-defined goal to Guía their decisions and actions, there would be more inventions and solutions than you can imagine.
For example, being a truck driver is a heavy job, they are people who work hard, there are truckers who drive for 21 days, they only stop to sleep and eat, their life is driving.
It’s a pretty tough job, then they have a rest period of about 10 days or less, and they go back out for another 21 days.
Technology is being worked on to have trucks that do not need a driver, it will take a few years for it to work and for government laws to allow it, and this will massively replace current drivers.
All people have a life purpose that they have to find, and each of them can set great goals in their lives, and this does not imply that there will not be people for jobs that require less use of our intellectual faculties and are jobs heavy.
The capacity of the human being to create and innovate is so great that if this happens, those heavy jobs would be replaced by some invention.
