We all have thoughts, but not all people think. Think about what I just said for a moment.
Having thoughts is mental activity, the mind has an average of 42 thoughts per minute, and most of the time people do not know what they are thinking about, they usually think about other people, things, places, or anything without a reason or as a result of some stimulus.
All this amount of thoughts, does not mean thinking. When we make use of our intellectual faculties is when we begin to really think. The task of thinking is laborious, it requires a mental effort.
Thoughts are automatic, all the information that comes to us through the 5 senses activates thoughts, it does not require any effort, it is a constant flow that does not stop.
Suppose you see a big sign that says “win the lottery for a million euros”. You read it and you have a thought: “wouldn’t it be nice to win the lottery” and this initial thought activates a thought process and more and more thoughts start to come in that revolve around how fun and exciting it would be to win the lottery.
Thinking is another level, let’s say you see the same lottery sign, but this time, unlike letting yourself be carried away by what you see, you stop to think, how can you create a million euros in your life. What do you need to do to create that amount of money? You start thinking of ideas and ways to achieve it. You activate your intellectual faculties to find the solution.
In the first example, the sign activates a thought, and you entertain it in your mind, but you never stop to think that if you really want a million euros, you can have it if you think like.
“Five percent of people think; ten percent of people think they think; and the other eighty-five percent would rather die than think.” ThomasEdison.
If we observe, every time someone complains about something, that person is not thinking. If he was thinking, first he wouldn’t complain and second he would have already found the solution for his problem. Every time you complain you are having (negative) thoughts. But if you really exercise your power of thought, you can change the situation.
- If you don’t like your 8 to 5 job, think about how to change it.
- If you are not satisfied with the amount of money you earn, think about how to increase it.
- If you want to buy a house, think about how to get it.
When you start thinking, ideas and solutions start to appear. When someone earns a thousand euros a month, it is not because they want to earn a thousand euros a month, it is because they do not know how to earn two thousand euros a month or more. You have to expand your awareness in order to see new possibilities, and thinking causes you to expand your awareness of what is possible.
Stimulate your mind to think by asking the right questions.
An important stimulant for creative thinking is focused questions. There is something about a well worded question that often cuts to the heart of the matter and sparks off new ideas and insights. Brian Tracey.
Asking yourself questions can be a great stimulus to think creatively, to answer a question you have to think, however, it has to be a well formulated and focused question that provokes the use of your intellectual faculties to find the answer.
We are not talking about questions like What do I have to do at work today? o Is tonight the episode of my favorite series?
For example, it is not the same to ask why am I so fat? What to ask yourself How can I achieve my ideal weight?
The first question triggers a series of thoughts, about how fat you are and everything you eat, as well as reinforces a mental image, and you tell your mind that you are fat.
On the contrary, the second question makes you think in what ways and ways you can achieve the objective.
If I had an hour to solve a problem and my life depended on the solution, I would spend the first 55 minutes determining the right question, because once I know the right question, I could solve the problem in less than five minutes. Albert Einstein.
The right question can make you think in the right way. But to find the right question you have to think. And once you find the question, keep asking yourself over and over again, hundreds of times if necessary until your mind finds the answer.
It’s not that I’m very smart, it’s just that he spent more time solving the question. Albert Einstein.
Become your own motivator.
Thoughts are constant, you can’t stop having thoughts, but you can control the way you talk to yourself, your way of thinking is a habit, you think positively or negatively, these habits determine how you think most of the time. time, according to psychological research, 80% of these thoughts are negative.
That internal conversation that you have with yourself is mostly a voice that criticizes the way you act. If you make a mistake, you immediately say to yourself “what a fool, because I did it so badly”. Or if you speak in public, you tell yourself how badly you did it and you worry about what people thought.
This voice is always reinforcing the bad things you do. And instead of becoming a support, it becomes a critical part that does not motivate you or make you feel good. Every time you talk to yourself like that you make yourself feel bad.
If you manage to change this conversation, for a more positive one, one that motivates you, that sees the positive side of what you did well, that tells you the next time you will do better, that, if you speak in public, you congratulate yourself, see in which parts you have done well, and the points in which you can improve.
Remember, the thoughts you think and the statements you make about yourself determine your mental attitude. If you have a worthwhile goal, find the one reason you can achieve it instead of hundreds of reasons you can’t.” Napoleon Hill.
Always speak constructively. Reinforcing the good part of what you do well. This will help:
- Increase your self-confidence.
- Raise your self-esteem.
- Feel better.
- Start believing in yourself and your abilities.
- Improve your attitude.
And as a consequence your performance and results will improve.
Be aware of what you think
To close, it is important that you always be aware of what you think, not 24 hours a day, but if you regularly ask yourself what you are thinking about, are they thoughts that bring something positive to your life?
Try to reprogram your way of thinking, start thinking constructively, and if you are going to have quality thoughts. Make your inner critic your first motivator.
Smart people talk about ideas.
Ordinary people talk about things.
Mediocre people talk about people.
It shifts beyond mere mental activity into actual thought.
For the water to produce energy you have to channel the current, the thought is the same, for them to produce results you have to locate them and direct them, to what you want to achieve.
